AI answer engines name an academic medical center as the top hospital in 46 of 50 states, according to a 50-state analysis from public relations firm 5W AI Communications.
The report modeled how five AI tools — ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews — answer state-level “best hospital” questions — 12 prompts per state spanning general recommendations and six specialties including oncology, cardiology and pediatrics, per a June 17 news release.
Academic health systems anchored the list, which 5W attributed to AI favoring U.S. News & World Report rankings, specialty rankings, peer-reviewed research output and trade-press coverage.
