Kaiser Permanente led the 2027 U.S. News & World Report ratings for the “best overall” Medicare Advantage companies.

The ratings, published Oct. 14, are based on a five-point scale, assigning weights to more than 30 CMS quality measures. After calculating contract ratings, U.S. News determined enrollment-adjusted average ratings for carriers. U.S. News considered MA companies among the “best” if they had an overall rating of at least 3.8 once rounded and served at least 1,000 beneficiaries in December 2025 in each of 10 or more states or territories where they still offer 2027 coverage.

These ratings looked at standalone MA contracts, as well as ones that also cover Part D. For the publication’s Medicare Part D ratings, the same two companies secured the “best overall” recognition in 2026 and 2027. In 2027, Humana scored 3.8, and Centene scored 3.5. To qualify as a top Part D company, insurers needed to have served at least 1,000 Part D beneficiaries in each of at least 10 jurisdictions where they still offer coverage for 2027. The threshold was an enrollment-weighted average rating of at least 3.5 after rounding.

Three of the top five 2027 MA carriers also made the 2026 list. U.S. News picked the top companies for satisfaction, screening and prevention, and care continuity, as well. The ratings follow CMS’ star ratings, released earlier in October.

Here are the best MA companies overall, per U.S. News:

  • Kaiser Permanente — 4.4
  • UnitedHealthcare — 3.8
  • Humana — 3.8
  • Aetna — 3.8
  • Devoted Health — 3.8
