To identify the best and worst states to have a baby, WalletHub analysts compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia on 30 metrics that fell into one of the following four categories: cost, healthcare, baby-friendliness, and family-friendliness. The metrics range from hospital cesarean-delivery charge to infant mortality rate. Each measure was graded on a 100-point scale, with 100 representing the most favorable conditions for expectant parents and newborns.
