U.S. News received data from 120 ranked medical schools for its annual survey. That data revealed only one of the 10 medical schools that received the most applications during the 2017-18 school year ranked among U.S. News‘ Best Medical Schools 2019 for primary care or research.
The 10 medical schools on the list received an average of 11,779 applications during the 2017-18 school year, which is more than double the average number of applications received by all ranked schools (5,687).

- Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (Erie, Pa.) — 16,314
- Georgetown University School of Medicine (Washington, D.C.) — 14,062
- Drexel University College of Medicine (Philadelphia) — 13,831
- George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences (Washington, D.C.) — 11,432
- David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA (Los Angeles) — 11,417
- Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University (Philadelphia) — 10,883
- Western University of Health Sciences (Pomona, Calif.) — 10,102
- Jefferson Sidney Kimmel Medical College (Philadelphia) — 10,052
- The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University (Providence, R.I.) — 9,922
- Tufts University School of Medicine (Boston) — 9,775
