10 healthcare companies with highest, lowest transparency in political contributions

The nonpartisan Center for Political Accountability in Washington, D.C., found Becton, Dickinson & Co. in Franklin Lakes, N.J., ranked among U.S. companies with the most transparency regarding political contributions.

The nonprofit center's 2017 CPA-Zicklin Index of Corporate Political Disclosure and Accountability reviewed corporate political spending policies and practices of the S&P 500 as of April 18. The Center for Political Accountability's 100-point index scores companies using publicly available information.

Here are 10 healthcare companies among U.S. firms with the highest political contribution transparency.

1. Becton, Dickinson & Co. 

2. Edwards Lifesciences Corp. (Irvine, Calif.)

3. Express Scripts (St. Louis)

4. McKesson Corp. (San Francisco)

5. Biogen (Cambridge, Mass.)

6. Bristol-Myers Squibb Co. (New York City)

7. Celgene Corp. (Summit, N.J.)

8. CVS Health Corp. (Woonsocket, R.I.)

9. AbbVie (North Chicago, Ill.)

10. Merck & Co. (Kenilworth, N.J.)

1. Envision Healthcare Corp. (Nashville, Tenn.)

2. Hologic (Marlborough, Mass.)

3. Regeneron Pharmaceuticals (Tarrytown, N.Y.)

5. Cooper Companies (Pleasanton, Ca.)

6. Vertex Pharmaceuticals (Boston)

7. Varian Medical Systems (Palo Alto, Calif.)
