Scottsdale, Ariz., is the best city to get a summer job and Memphis, Tenn., is the worst, according to an analysis published by WalletHub on May 21.
The personal finance website compared 182 cities — including the 150 most populated cities nationwide, plus at least two of the most populated cities in each state — across two dimensions: youth job market and social environment and affordability.
WalletHub evaluated the dimensions using 21 metrics, ranging from availability of summer jobs to singles-friendliness.
Each metric was graded on a 100-point scale, with 100 representing the best conditions for individuals seeking summer jobs. WalletHub used each city’s weighted average across all metrics to calculate its overall score and rank-order the places. More information about the methodology is available here.
