Princeton (N.J.) University is the top higher education institution in the U.S., according to rankings released Oct. 12 by WalletHub.
The personal finance website compared 738 colleges and universities across 30 metrics in seven categories: student selectivity, cost and financing, faculty resources, campus safety, campus experience, educational outcomes and career outcomes. Metrics included admission rate, net cost, student-faculty ratio, graduation rate and median salary 10 years after enrollment. Data was collected as of Sept. 14 from sources including the National Center for Education Statistics, the U.S. Department of Education and PayScale.
WalletHub also released separate rankings of 670 universities, defined as schools that offer graduate programs, and 68 colleges, defined as schools that offer only undergraduate programs. All of the top 10 institutions overall are universities, so the top 10 universities match the overall list.
