The Society of Interventional Radiology has partnered with triLumen Health Partners to develop a strategic roadmap for identifying, quantifying and supporting the value of interventional radiology.
The effort comes as interventional radiology’s value may not always translate into reimbursement, resources or institutional influence, according to an Aug. 6 news release. Market interviews found 90% of health system leaders rated interventional radiology as good or excellent, while 87% of payers rated the specialty superior on total episode cost and 73% rated it superior on outcomes and safety, according to an SIR post.
The initiative will develop a strategic roadmap focused on five areas: helping members compete in local markets, building data infrastructure, advancing national advocacy, shaping technology adoption and developing the workforce.
As part of the effort, SIR plans to develop tools to demonstrate interventional radiology’s value to decision-makers, including economic forecasting and value quantification tools and balanced scorecard templates. The project will also create practice-specific blueprints for large academic medical centers, community hospitals, outpatient-based laboratories and ambulatory surgery centers.
