Loma Linda (Calif.) University Medical Center-Murrieta began using a new CT scanner earlier this month, marking a major upgrade to its diagnostic imaging capabilities.
The hospital performed more than 27,000 CT exams in 2025, according to a Jan. 29 hospital news release. The new scanner — the only model of its kind in the region — enables faster, safer cardiac and neurological imaging.
The system captures the entire heart in 0.7 seconds, reducing motion blur and minimizing the need for medication to lower heart rate during scans. It also performs CT brain perfusion imaging, allowing clinicians to evaluate blood flow in real time and distinguish salvageable tissue from permanent damage.
