UnitedHealthcare Unveils Price Transparency Tool

On the tails of a CMS report released last week detailing wide variances in hospital pricing not explained by geography, health insurance giant UnitedHealthcare has announced it will make its myHealthcare Cost Estimator tool available to nearly all of its employer-sponsored health plans to compare prices and quality for healthcare services from different providers.

The online and mobile calculator allows customers to compare prices of more than 450 medical services and procedures in 165 geographic areas to improve healthcare price transparency, and it integrates policyholders’ health benefits information and balances to help calculate out-of-pocket expenses.
