Top 10 Financial Challenges for Healthcare Executives

Medicaid reimbursement is the leading financial challenge facing healthcare executives, according to the American College of Healthcare Executives' survey.

The survey includes responses from 472 healthcare executives who are members of ACHE.

The top ten financial challenges according to healthcare executives are as follows. The percent figure indicates the portion of respondents who reported each issue as a challenge.

1. Medicaid reimbursement — 83 percent
2. Government funding cuts — 81 percent
3. Medicare reimbursement — 72 percent
4. Bad debt — 69 percent
5. Decreasing inpatient volume — 61 percent
6. Increasing costs for staff, supplies, etc. — 52 percent
7. Inadequate funding for capital improvements — 43 percent
8. Other commercial insurance reimbursement — 40 percent
9. Managed care payments — 35 percent
10. Revenue cycle management — 34 percent
