Texas House representatives voted to ban the state legislature from expanding the Medicaid program under the optional provision of President Barack Obama's signature health reform law, according to a report by the New York Times.
The measure was included as an amendment to a Medicaid-related bill, according to the report, and specifies that state officials "may not provide medical assistance" to those who are not already eligible for that assistance. The state Senate already passed a version of the bill without the amendment, requiring the two chambers to reach an agreement on the bill.
