Republicans Criticize PPACA for Health Insurance Cost Increases

Senate Finance Committee Republicans have criticized the Obama administration based on Facebook posts made by Americans describing premium increases for their current health plans, according to a report from The Hill.

checkFor instance, Bob Kapolnek of Champaign, Ill., posted to the HealthCare.gov Facebook account that his family premium went from $789 per month to $1,700, according to the report. Republicans have criticized the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act as a major strain on family finances.

However, experts have said analysts won't be able to assess the law's impact on healthcare costs fully until at least 2014, according to the report. Aside from premiums, plan deductibles and out-of-pocket maximums will also affect family spending. People may also be able to purchase less expensive health plans through the exchanges.

HHS has said premium rates for health plans offered through state exchanges will be more than 16 percent lower than projected.
