LifePoint Hospitals Reports 1.9% Drop in Q4 Profit

Brentwood, Tenn.-based LifePoint Hospitals recorded $35.6 million of profit in the fourth quarter of 2013, a 1.9 percent drop from $36.3 million in 2012.

For the three months ended Dec. 31, LifePoint's revenue increased 6.6 percent year-over-year to $952.6 million, while adjusted EBITDA rose 10.1 percent to $148.5 million. However, admissions declined 7.6 percent in the fourth quarter. Inpatient surgeries decreased by 6.4 percent, although outpatient surgeries were up by 4.3 percent.

For the year ended Dec. 31, LifePoint posted $128.2 million of profit, a 23.7 percent drop from $151.9 million in 2012. Revenue, however, increased 8.4 percent to nearly $3.68 billion. Admissions fell 5.3 percent in 2013, and inpatient surgeries dropped 7.2 percent. Outpatient surgeries also fell by 0.4 percent.
