For-Profit Hospital Stock Report: Week of Aug. 19-23, 2013

It was a relatively quiet trading period for hospitals last week, as no company gained or lost more than 1.6 percent of its share value.

Shares of Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems rose 1.45 percent last week, the highest of any for-profit hospital company. However, CHS was also the only company to earn more than 1 percent.

Brentwood, Tenn.-based LifePoint Hospitals was the only operator that lost last week, as its shares slid 1.54 percent.

Here are the five-day stock prices and percentage changes for the week of Aug. 19 through Aug. 23.

•    Community Health Systems (Franklin, Tenn.): $41.14 per share (up 1.45 percent)

•    Health Management Associates (Naples, Fla.): $13.01 per share (up 0.46 percent)

•    Hospital Corp. of America (Nashville, Tenn.): $38.26 per share (up 0.95 percent)  

•    LifePoint Hospitals (Brentwood, Tenn.): $46.09 per share (down 1.54 percent)

•    Tenet Healthcare Corp. (Dallas): $39.99 per share (up 0.81 percent) 

•    Universal Health Services (King of Prussia, Pa.): $70.42 per share (up 0.89 percent) 

•    Vanguard Health Systems (Nashville, Tenn.): $20.91 per share (up 0.24 percent)
