CMS Releases Final Rules on Inpatient Rehab, Skilled Nursing Facility Pay

Inpatient rehabilitation facilities and skilled nursing facilities will see their Medicare payments increase in fiscal year under final rules released by CMS.

Inpatient rehabilitation facilities will see an average estimated increase of 2.3 percent. This payment update reflects a 2.6 percent market basket update with reductions including a 0.5 percentage point productivity adjustment and another 0.3 percentage point adjustment required by law. The increase also includes an approximate 0.5 percent estimated increase in inpatient rehabilitation facility outlier payments.

Skilled nursing facilities will see an average estimated pay increase of 1.3 percent, which reflects a 2.3 percent market basket increase reduced by a 0.5 percentage point productivity adjustment and a 0.5 percentage point forecast error correction.
