CarePoint Seeks Medicaid Provider License

For-profit hospital operator CarePoint Health is looking to become a licensed Medicaid provider for residents of Hudson County in New Jersey, according to a report from The Hudson Reporter.

CrossCarePoint — formerly Hudson Holdco — encompasses Bayonne (N.J.) Medical Center, Hoboken (N.J.) University Medical Center and Christ Hospital in Jersey City, N.J. CarePoint Health also operates its own health insurance plans: CarePoint Advantage, a Medicare Advantage plan, and CarePoint Guardian, a special needs plan.

New Jersey will expand its Medicaid program in 2014 under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, and as many as 300,000 low-income New Jersey residents will get coverage under the program next year, according to the Reporter.

CarePoint has opened three clinics for poor patients at each of its hospitals and is planning to open a fourth in Jersey City in anticipation of being a Medicaid provider, according to the report.
