The rollout is part of a collaboration with the California Health Care Foundation to ensure users have better access to medical information about health facilities in their area.

To determine each hospital’s rating, Yelp used statistics from Cal Hospital Compare. The organization’s website contains information for 250 California hospitals aggregated by state and nonprofit organizations such as the California Maternal Quality Care Collaborative and the California Department of Public Health on various maternity care issues. Users in the state can obtain information on the number of C-sections performed, breastfeeding success rates, episiotomies and vaginal births after caesarean at each hospital in California that offers maternity care services.

Yelp officials said they will continue to work with state and federal officials to gather information about hospitals and health systems nationwide and intend to roll out the feature in other states.
