The individual with confirmed yellow fever had traveled to Republic of Congo’s Tchiamba Nzassi district near the Angolan enclave of Cabinda two weeks before symptoms started.
So far, health officials have identified 186 suspected cases of yellow fever in the Republic of Congo this year.
In 2016, Angola and the Democratic Republic of Congo saw a major yellow fever outbreak where thousand were infected and 400 people died. The outbreak was controlled with an extensive vaccination campaign.
No deaths have yet been reported, but health officials are taking the confirmed yellow fever infection seriously.
“Congo, in general, and the departments of Pointe Noire and Koulou in particular … are experiencing since the start of 2018 an emerging event of epidemic proportions,” the health ministry said in a statement last week, according to Reuters.
