A large part of the updated guidelines is the “inclusion of mandatory training on the putting on, taking off and decontaminating of PPE,” according to Edward Kelley, WHO director for service delivery and safety. Additionally, the guidelines call for all PPE users to be mentored before providing clinical care.
The new WHO guidelines allow for flexibility and options in choosing PPE, as “in most cases, there were no evidence to show that any one of the options recommended is superior to other options available for healthcare worker safety,” according to a news release.
