The hospital decided to suspend nonemergency surgeries on Jan. 30 after a “granular substance” was found on a few sterile trays in the sterilizing department within the main operating room. The trays in question were not used for patient procedures.
While elective surgeries were expected to resume after Feb. 2, Cabell Huntington Hospital’s operating room will remain closed through Feb. 12, according to the report. Since the substance was discovered, the hospital is using a new water filtration system and a higher micron filter, WVAH reports.
