The aptly titled video, “Let’s Wash!”, created by U.K.-based Royal Cornwall Hospital Treliske’s infection prevention and control team, outlines a number of steps that practitioners should take to ensure they are not transferring infectious germs between patients.
“Handwashing is our first line of defense in the prevention of infection,” Andrew MacCallum, nurse executive for the hospital, told PirateFM. “We have seen a substantial drop in the number of hospital associated infections at RCHT in recent years, MRSA bloodstream infections for example are now virtually non-existent. That’s a reflection of good practice by our staff and the video is a novel way of keeping infection prevention at the forefront of our minds.”
