VigiLanz Clinical Intelligence Platform incorporates National Healthcare Safety Network updates for 2016

VigiLanz, an enterprise intelligence resources (EIR) software and services firm serving more than 400 hospitals, announced today that the new 2016 National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) updates are implemented and live.

This allows healthcare delivery organizations (HDOs) using the VigiLanz Clinical Intelligence Platform to more quickly and efficiently collect, record and share event data on infections and diseases, improving patient outcomes and overall population health.

While NHSN has not yet begun accepting some 2016 data electronically, VigiLanz’ SaaS development team completed the updates prior to NHSN’s planned acceptance date, allowing users to continue to record and store their data without interruption or the cumbersome task of manually entering data. Once NHSN can receive 2016 data electronically, users can simply click “Direct Submit” to send their data directly into NHSN.

The new software updates – which were effective on January 1st in advance of NHSN’s projected implementation date later in January – include changes in event reporting related to areas such as multidrug-resistant organisms (MDRO), laboratory-identified infections (LabID), central line insertion practices (CLIP), and dialysis.

Updates to Reporting of Infection-Related Data Pose Challenges
“The first of the year can be quite challenging for infection preventionists. They are charged with ensuring infection control and disease event reporting is completed according to 2015 requirements, and they must also make sure 2016 changes are deployed appropriately,” said Loretta Marsh MSN, RN, CIC, and VigiLanz IP Specialist. VigiLanz took the lead in updating its Clinical Intelligence Platform to include the 2016 NHSN updates on the first day of the New Year. This is a valuable feature for the HDOs we serve, as it positions them to automatically report events with the most recent updates on the very first day they are applicable.”

Real-Time Decision Support for Clinicians and Hospitals
Through automated, continuous surveillance of every patient in hospitals, VigiLanz enables clinicians and hospitals to rapidly identify healthcare-acquired infection (HAI) threats and resistance patterns, control emerging infection risks and prevent further infections in real time.

Ms. Marsh continues, “There is unprecedented value to HDOs in quickly identifying conditions needing attention and enabling rapid reporting in compliance with state and federal requirements – including direct NHSN reporting. As a result, healthcare organizations benefit from robust and intuitive analysis along with simplified report generation so they can spend more time working with patients.

VigiLanz will showcase its Clinical Intelligence Platform and other real-time decision support innovations at the upcoming HIMSS 16 event February 29-March 4 in Las Vegas (Booth #12306).
