News of the outbreak broke on April 19 when health officials confirmed two cases of the mumps and two more cases under suspicion in university students. By April 25, that number ticked up to seven. The outbreak continues to grow.

University officials are encouraging students to get vaccinated, to be on the lookout for potential symptoms and to avoid contact with those already displaying symptoms.

The CDC reports that two doses of the vaccine are 88 percent effective at preventing the mumps.
