The new star ratings will be updated each quarter. Currently, 102 hospitals have five stars, 934 have four stars, 1,770 have three stars, 723 have two stars and 133 have one star.

The star ratings combine 64 measures that are already public on Hospital Compare into one consumer-friendly metric. The measures fall into seven groups: mortality, safety of care, readmission, patient experience, effectiveness of care, timeliness of care and efficient use of medical imaging. Read more about the methodology behind the ratings here.

Becker’s Hospital Review has organized the 102 five-star hospitals into two listings: a breakdown of hospitals by state or the raw ranking directly from CMS’ Hospital Compare.

At the Becker's 11th Annual IT + Revenue Cycle Conference: The Future of AI & Digital Health, taking place September 14–17 in Chicago, healthcare executives and digital leaders from across the country will come together to explore how AI, interoperability, cybersecurity, and revenue cycle innovation are transforming care delivery, strengthening financial performance, and driving the next era of digital health.
