Tarrant County Public Health confirms first imported chikungunya case

Tarrant County Public Health confirmed the first imported case of chikungunya virus disease in the county.

The patient, a resident of Mansfield, Texas, contracted the disease while in the Caribbean and was diagnosed by physicians after returning home.

"There is no evidence of local transmission of chikungunya virus in our community at this time," said Anita Kurian, MMBS, DrPH, associate director at Tarrant County Public Health.

In the last three months, an imported chikungunya case was reported in Forsyth County, N.C., and two locally acquired chikungunya cases were reported in Florida.
