Interview responses indicated several main barriers for infection preventionists: inadequate resources for expanding roles, uncertainty from shifting role designations and stress from constant change in an already shifting environment.
Study authors suggested infection preventionists could benefit from training in leadership, data standardization and advances in the science of implementation.
