Researchers examined outcomes among 2,166 patients transferred from medical-surgical wards to the ICU following a critical Cardiac Arrest Risk Triage Score.
Of the patients transferred to the ICU within 6 hours of the critical CART score, 27 percent died during admission. Of the patients transferred more than 6 hours after, 45 percent died.
Researchers determined that for every hour the ICU transfer is delayed, the risk of mortality increases by 7 percent.
