South Shore Hospital enhances security after former employee sends 'troubling email,' breaks into ED

Weymouth, Mass.-based South Shore Hospital is ramping up security efforts after a former employee sent an alarming email to staff and broke into the emergency department the week of March 19, according to WHDH.

Hospital officials said the former employee sent a threatening email to certain staff members last week and entered the ED without authorization March 22.

While hospital officials didn't release details about the threatening email, employees at South Shore Hospital told WHDH hospital officials sent an email over the weekend detailing what to do in the event of a "code silver," or active shooter situation.

As a result of the incident, South Shore Hospital added security personnel to all shifts and reviewed employee access to the buildings.

"The safety of our employees, patients and visitors is always our number one priority.  Our Public Safety team is taking measures to ensure our environment is safe and well secured and they are working in close collaboration with Weymouth Police Department," a hospital statement reads, according to WHDH.
