South Dakota reports 1st flu deaths

The South Dakota Department of Health confirmed the state's first three flu-related deaths of the 2019-20 season Jan. 14.

Health officials did not disclose the patients' age or gender, but said the individuals were all 50 or older.

On average, about 46 South Dakotans die from the flu annually. At present, health officials have reported 1,555 flu cases and 59 flu-related hospitalizations in South Dakota this season.
