This figure is nearly double the amount of opioid overdoses tallied for the same seven-day period last year.
Of the 57 reported opioid overdoses, 34 were men and 20 were women. In three cases gender was not reported. Twenty-one opioid overdoses occurred among individuals between 21 and 30 years of age. Seventy-seven percent of the opioid overdoses victims were white.
Additionally, the Corrections Bureau of Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office in Everett, Wash., reports 32 percent of individuals booked during the seven-day period were inmates under opioid withdrawal watch. Sixty-one percent of the opioid overdoses were caused by heroin.
To address the county’s opioid addiction issues, Snohomish Health District is partnering with the Snohomish County Opioid Response Multi-Agency Coordination Group.
