Virginia Hospitals Closing Maternity Wards

Carilion Stonewall Jackson Hospital in Lexington, Va., and Bedford (Va.) Memorial Hospital will be closing their maternity departments by the end of the year, according to a report in the Washington Post.

Carilion Stonewall Jackson will close its ward on April 30 and Bedford Memorial will close its on Oct. 1. Over the past eight years, six Virginia hospitals have shut their maternity wards due to falling state funding, according to the report.
