The American College of Obstetricians & Gynecologists has released a 2026 maternal immunization schedule that differs from federal vaccine recommendations, marking the first time the organization has formally issued its own immunization schedule.
The schedule was endorsed by 13 medical societies and health organizations, including the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Academy of Family Physicians, the National Association of Nurse Practitioners in Women’s Health and the American College of Nurse-Midwives, according to a June 11 news release from ACOG.
ACOG said the guidance was developed by its Immunization, Infectious Disease, and Public Health Preparedness Expert Work Group and reflects the organization’s commitment to vaccine recommendations based on peer-reviewed scientific data and evidence-based medicine.
The organization said the guidance can be used to support prepregnancy, prenatal and postpartum care by helping clinicians assess vaccination status, evaluate risk factors for vaccine-preventable diseases and recommend appropriate immunizations.
The schedule comes months after ACOG withdrew from the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices in February, citing concerns that clinical recommendations were no longer being grounded solely in scientific evidence.
That move followed the CDC’s removal of several national healthcare organizations — including ACOG — from ACIP workgroups in fall 2025. The CDC’s move was part of a broader pattern of major recent federal vaccine policy shifts, including the rescission of universal COVID-19 vaccination recommendations for pregnant women and healthy children.
