Twenty-eight people, including 23 correctional officers, four nurses and one inmate, were transported from Ross Correctional Institution in Chillicothe to the hospital for treatment, according to police.
One staff member and one inmate were still hospitalized as of the evening of Aug. 29, but there were no fatalities and no threat to the public, police said.
Several victims received Narcan, an overdose-countering drug, and police are still investigating the incident.
Additionally, in Pennsylvania, five prison staff members at a state prison became ill after being exposed to an unknown substance, according to Erie News Now. Those staff members were taken to a nearby hospital.
