Kaiser Permanente Westside Medical Center (Hillsboro, Ore.). Westside Medical Center — which opened in August 2013 — is Kaiser Permanente’s 38th hospital, but it’s the first hospital in the system to earn LEED Gold certification. It is one of fewer than four dozen hospitals in the world to achieve this level of LEED certification. The Westside Medical Center incorporates many eco-friendly features, including rooftop solar panels, building materials that are free of potentially harmful chemicals and an eight-level parking garage that uses only 25 percent of the electricity allowed by the building code.
