Section 6001 of the healthcare reform law blocks new construction of physician-owned hospitals. Late last year, the U.S. House of Representatives passed HR 3630, “The Middle Class Tax Relief & Job Creation Act,” which would allow physician-owned hospitals that missed that deadline to continue construction, along with those that need to expand in order to meet community demand.
PHA and other advocates plan to meet with lawmakers about the bill later this. The final outcome of H.R. 3630 is expected to be announced this month.
