Richmond University Medical Center in Staten Island, N.Y., will receive approximately $12 million for its work to improve green flood control measures and strengthening buildings against wind damage. The hospital is undergoing this project in response to Superstorm Sandy, which caused the facility to lose power for four days.
Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center and Our Lady of Consolation Nursing Home, both in West Islip, N.Y., received approximately $21 million to replace generators and raise critical electrical systems in the event of a flood. Additionally, a civil engineering study will help determine recommended flood control measures.
