So far in 2026, Florida health officials have recorded 497 dengue cases, including 245 acquired internationally and 252 locally.

With 252 locally acquired cases, Florida — which often reports a high number of these mosquito-borne infection cases every year — has surpassed its own record of locally acquired dengue cases. Between 2010 and 2025, few states have reported as many cases, according to CDC data, including 189 Florida cases in 2023 and 198 Hawaii cases in 2015.

A majority of the locally acquired cases, or 233 of 252, have been reported in Hillsborough County, which includes Tampa. Three mosquito pools in this county tested positive for dengue. Among the 245 internationally acquired cases, Cuba is the country of exposure for 201 of them.

The counts include confirmed and probable cases but not suspect ones. The mosquito-borne infection is rarely fatal, and the Florida Department of Health has reported one death this year.
