Hilton Raethel, president and CEO of Healthcare Association of Hawaii, told the outlet the state is seeing a small COVID-19 surge.
“It looks like we’ve reached a peak and looks like we’re over that,” Mr. Raethel said. “It’s not continuing to climb, which is a good thing, but the lack of vaccine is a problem when there’s so much COVID in the community.”
The demand increase is concurrent with timing of graduations and summer event trends, according to KHON2.
Overall, case counts and emergency department visits remain low. As of June 29, CDC data indicates Hawaii is seeing a moderate percentage of ED visits for COVID-19.
