CBGH participates in two Bridges to Excellence Awards Programs – the Diabetes Care Link and the Cardiac Care Link — which are physician incentive programs that reward providers who provide top quality care for patients.
CBGH ran two years of Colorado medical claims data and found physicians recognized for their diabetes care had lower average costs because their patients were less likely to need emergency room services or be admitted to the hospital in general for diabetes-related complications. CBGH officials concluded physicians perform better in areas in which they are measured, which leads to lower healthcare costs.
