Patient safety tool: United Hospital Fund creates CLABSI prevention toolkit

The United Hospital Fund, a nonprofit organization that works to build a more effective healthcare system for every New Yorker, has published a toolkit offering practical approaches and tools to systematically assess the risks for and prevent central line-associated bloodstream infections.

The toolkit is designed for home care professionals and hospital acute care providers. It was created with the help of Bronx, N.Y.-based Montefiore Health System and Great Neck, N.Y.-based Northwell Health.

The tool is particularly helpful for home care providers working with patients transitioning from an acute care hospital to home with a peripherally inserted central catheter or any other central line used to administer intravenous fluids, blood products, medications and parenteral nutrition, or treatments like chemotherapy.
