The wearables are “smart socks” made by Palarum, that use technology to trigger real-time alarms to alert nurses that a fall-risk patient is out of bed unassisted. The socks have been dubbed “PUP,” which stands for “patient is up!”
“The VA has utilized our PUP SmartSock at various sites and after rigorous testing, they are confident in our technology’s ability to reduce patient falls and their related costs,” Patrick Baker, CEO of Palarum, the maker of the socks stated in a news release.
