More than two patients have laboratory evidence of tuberculosis from a contaminated lot of human bone tissue products sold to hospitals, the CDC confirmed to Becker’s on July 27.

The “CDC is aware of patients — in addition to the initial two patients — with laboratory evidence of TB disease who received product from this lot,” the agency said.

One death has been confirmed.

The outbreak has been linked to one donor’s lot of ViBone, a viable bone matrix product made by Silver Spring, Md.-based Aziyo Biologics. Forty-three units of ViBone from the donor have been shipped to hospitals, and the company recalled all lots of the product in mid-July.

Two updates since the CDC first reported about the outbreak on July 25:

1. All 36 patients who were treated with the contaminated lot have been contacted.

2. The lot was sent to hospitals, surgical centers and dental clinics across California, Louisiana, Michigan, New York, Oregon, Texas and Virginia.
