Researchers from Osaka (Japan) City University Medical School measured PVI, heart rate and blood pressure in 76 healthy adults before and during anesthesia induction. They found that pre-anesthesia PVI correlated with a decrease in MAP, according to the release.
As PVI may show changes such as vascular tone, circulating blood volume and intrathoracic pressure excursions, researchers concluded that it was an easy, noninvasive and inexpensive method to predict patients that may have hypotension during anesthesia, according to the release.
