Two police officers were guarding a 27-year-old patient as he was being treated for an undisclosed illness at the hospital. The patient was being held on home invasion charges following a April 27 arrest. As he was sitting in the hospital, the patient broke off the bed railing he was handcuffed to and attempted to flee. When he began running, he attempted to grab the officer’s gun. A struggle between the two occurred, prompting the armed intruder alert.
The two officers were able to subdue the suspect within seconds. At no time was the man loose in the hospital with a gun. No one was injured during the incident.
