Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, the flagship facility of Central Maine Healthcare, will not seek reverification as a Level 3 trauma center from the American College of Surgeons, according to a Nov. 5 alert from Maine EMS.
The 205-bed hospital will lose its trauma status effective Dec. 1, leaving two trauma centers in the region: MaineHealth Maine Medical Center in Portland and Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, according to ABC affiliate WMTW.
Although it will no longer be a designated trauma center, Central Maine Medical Center will continue to provide care and facilitate necessary transfers as part of the state’s trauma system.
