The new program is aimed at improving care and outcomes for critically ill patients, while lowering costs for both the hospital and patients. Kenneth Cruz, MD, who has more than 10 years of experience as an intensivist and ICU program medical director, has been appointed to lead the new program as medical director.

The program uses proven principles to lower mortality and complication rates, reduce the time patients require ventilator assistance, speed recovery and shorten ICU stays. According to Dr. Cruz, the program follows four key parameters: intensivist-led, multidisciplinary ICU teams; evidence-based guidelines and protocols; process and outcomes measurement; and ongoing collaboration with the medical staff.
