The study included 706,520 patients at 2,544 hospitals who underwent major cardiovascular, orthopedic or general surgery operations. The researchers found the failure-to-rescue rates were lower at high-care intensity hospitals. However, care intensity explains a “very small portion” of the variation, concluded the study authors.
