The lockdown occurred at 7:10 p.m. after an employee received a threatening phone call. The hospital’s initial overhead announcement incorrectly contained the phrase “active shooter,” among other errors, and was not corrected or updated until the lockdown was lifted over an hour later, the hospital said.
The hospital blamed its policies for the miscommunication rather than individual employees. It will revise the emergency overhead communications scripts and add timely updates to the emergency protocol, among other changes. The hospital will also schedule drills to test the new policies.
