According to the report, BCBS will not pay hospitals for errors identified by the National Quality Forum if the error was preventable by the hospital. These include such events as procedures performed on the wrong side of the body, at the wrong site or on the wrong person.
Medicare and Medicaid have already begun similar policies, according to the report.
